Does anyone trade the Value Line index futures? It seems that over time the performance of the value line index is significantly better than a mid cap ETF like MDY. (See attached charts comparing the value line index against the MDY ETF.) There may be some difference as the ETF pays a dividend and the value line index doesn't but this wouldn't account for the variance.

I considered options at one time on the index. I always thought It seemed odd that for as long as the value line index (VLAI) has been around that there are no ETFs based on it. There are other value line ETFs (powershares has some) but none on the VLAI.

I have used the etf's VOT and IJK as well as RFG to approximate the Value Line Arithmetic index. When I did my study, VOT seemed closest but the volume on VOT and RFG is quite anemic so be careful.

There is nothing worse then trading low vol ETFs you end up get stuck or very bad fills.
